The Beatles Cover of the Day- “The Long And Winding Road” by Aretha Franklin. “The Long and Winding Road” from the final released Beatles album- “Let It Be” was their 20th and final #1 single in the United States. Written by Paul McCartney the recording of The Beatles original is one of the more controversial Beatles songs due to the overdubbing by madman producer Phil Spector. Paul has always hated what Spector did to the song- adding orchestration to the song. Paul decades later would go to the trouble of re-releasing Let It Be without Phil’s producing- as Let It Be …Naked.

Rolling Stone Magazine has said that no one covered The Beatles songs as well as the immortal Aretha Frankin and called her version of The Long And Winding Road” the best Beatles cover ever.- link to the article below and then Aretha singing “The Long And Winding  Road” which was released in 1972 on her Young, Gifted and Black album.

    • I like Aretha’s version but I don’t think its anywhere close to the best Beatles cover.. and thank you!

  1. I love the cushion of her wondrous backup singers in contrast to the power and magic of Aretha’s voice, almost like the choir of the Goddess. I like this cover ok but I like The Beatles Naked version best.
