Hans Remembers- Headlines from Wednesday April 16, 1969- 50 years ago today.
- My Grandma Postcard- must have been watching the news on this evening- as a youngster I was always wanting to sit on the floor close to the television when watching it. The U.S. government on this day issued a report saying to stay at least 6 feet away from the sides and the back of the set because of unsafe levels of radiation. I am sure I was probably three feet away.
- The MC5 was dropped by Elektra Records on this day after the group took out an ad in an underground newspaper attacking the Hudson department store chain for not stocking their debut album- Kick Out The Jams. Hudson didn’t want it on their shelves because of the line ‘Kick out the jams, m-f’er”- Elektra was not happy that the MC5 had their company logo on the ad.
- Desmond Dekker and the Aces went to #1 on the UK singles charts on this day- becoming the first Jamaican artist to reach the top of the UK chart. The song- The Israelites.
