She had two huge hits on her own, What The World Needs Now Is Love a #7 hit in 1965 and this song “Put A Little Love In Your Heart” #4 in 1969. She also wrote When You Walk In The Room for The Room a hit for The Searchers. She also wrote one of the biggest hits of the 1980’s- Bette Davis Eyes which Kim Carnes covered and took to the top of the charts.
Jackie DeShannon wrote Put A Little Love In Your Heart with her brother Randy Myers and Jimmy Holiday. The song has been covered by a number of artists- the best being a cover by Annie Lennox and Al Green which was the ending theme for the movie “Scrooged” and went to #9 on the Billboard Top 40 in 1988. Other notables who covered the song- Anne Murray, Dolly Parton, The Dave Clark Five, David Ruffin, Andy Williams and the golden throated Leonard Nimoy.
