The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Factory Girl. Factory Girl was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and is the penultimate song on their outstanding Beggars Banquet album from 1968. It is hard to believe that this is the same band that a year earlier made Their Satanic Majesties Request. Factory Girl is an Appalachian sounding folk song- it is my third favorite song on the album behind Street Fighting Man and Sympathy For The Devil. A show I listen to every week Celtic Crush will play this song a few times a year, it does fit in well with the Celtic music sound.
What a difference between albums. They sound like a completely different group.
Your series of posts about the songs from Beggars Banquet has reminded me what a superb album it is… and how I really need to listen to it again. Soon! Thank you, thank you.
It is a great album–glad that ditched the psychedelic sounds of 1967 and went back to their roots.
That was a revelation to me.
I love this one. At Glastonbury 2013, they did an adaptation of Factory Girl, called, “Glastonbury Girl.” The lyrics were right on target. It was really sweet.
