ALBUMS
- YOKO ONO; SEASONS OF GLASS: 1981: The most polarizing figure in rock music history? This album was released six months after John Lennon’s assassination and it would be the highest charting album of her solo career- #49 on the album chart. Walking On Thin Ice- is on the re-issue but not on the original album which is a shame- probably her greatest song. I know her singing takes on a lot of criticism- but you can tell a lot of effort was put into this album- it sounds pretty good.
- BOBBY BARE: THE BEST OF BOBBY BARE: 1994: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Bare is kind of forgotten today but he was a big star in country music from the early 60’s through the 1970’s- with 58 top 40 country hits. The most remembered Detroit City, 500 Miles Away From Home, The Streets Of Baltimore, Miller’s Cave. 21 of his hits are collected on this album.
- BARENAKED LADIES: GORDON: 1992: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: In the early 90’s I got a call from my friend Dale asking me if I wanted to go see these guys- I had never heard of them but I went- they put on a good, entertaining show. They had 2 albums out at the time. 4 or 5 years later they had a number one hit which shocked me. This is a good pop album- Brian Wilson, Be My Yoko Ono, If I Had A $1000000 are highlights.
- PETE SEEGER: THE ESSENTIAL PETE SEEGER: 2005: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: No matter how you feel about his politics and he was about as far to the left as you can get there is no doubting his impact on folk music. A career that spanned 9 decades. That doesn’t even seem possible but 1939 until his death in 2014. A lot of his famous songs are here- If I Had A Hammer, Goodnight Irene, Barbara Allen, Michael Row Your Boat Ashore, Where Have All The Flowers Gone? Waist Deep In The Big Muddy.
also listened to all 3 hours of this weeks Neon Beat- on Radio George.
Was Walking on Thin Ice the last song John worked on?
The BareNaked Ladies were a fun group.
I think you are correct about John and Walking On Thin Ice- he did play on it.
It’s been a while but it seems like I read where he was carrying the tapes…anyway it’s been a while since I heard it.
The cd I have of Season of Glass- doesn’t have it- I don’t know why she didn’t put it on the album originally- I have the single-
I think you are right about his carrying the tapes…
I’m afraid I could never understand the Yoko’s popularity.
I think this is her best work- I have heard most of her albums- a friend of mine had all her stuff and loved her music. I listened to it- and was underwhelmed for the most part.
Then I must have a tin ear.
Well calling it her best work–I am not putting it up there with Mozart! LOL
