Harper Lee “To Kill A Mockingbird” 87 Today

Harper Lee has written one book but what a book it was.  “To Kill A Mockingbird” was published in July 1960 and was an immediate best seller. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961. There are today more than 30 million copies in print. In 1999 it was named “Best Novel Of The Century” by Library Journal. Harper Lee wrote one book for that one book she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contribution to literature.

Harper Lee is not in very good health these days. She is wheelchair bound, partially blind and deaf and suffering from memory loss. Why she never wrote another book? She once told a friend that she didn’t want to go through the pressure and publicity she went through with “To Kill A Mockingbird” for any amount of money. The other reason is she said all she had to say. I’d say she said it well.
