On this day in 1919 Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee made the worst transaction in American sports history. He sold George Herman “Babe’ Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000. The rest is history. The Red Sox who up until this time was the most successful franchise in baseball would go until 2004 before winning another World Series. The Yankees who up until this time had been a loser have won 26 World Championships since the trade. Babe Ruth would go down as the greatest baseball player who ever lived.
